Balmain South Sydney's Tahmid Islam wins the inaugural Gerard Price Medal as the 2023/24 Shires First Grade Player of the Year

Balmain South Sydney First Grade Captain Tahmid Islam was announced as the inaugural Gerard Price Medal winner as the 2023/24 Shires First Grade Player of the Year at the Annual Shires Premiers Dinner on May 11, 2024.


This season the Shires Sub-Committee determined that from the 2023/24 season onwards that the Shires First Grade Player of the Year award be renamed the Gerard Price Medal in honour of Burwood Briars life member and Legend of Shires Gerard Price.


Tahmid made it a third consecutive First Grade Player of the Year award after topping the voting tally on 14 points ahead of North West Sydney’s Corey Lowe on 13 points and Georges River’s Chris McArthur and Jake Wilson, Lindfield’s Daniel Miles and Warringah’s James Park Johnson all on 12 points. Points are awarded by the Umpires on a 3-2-1 basis in each First Grade match during the preliminary rounds only.


During the regular season Tahmid took 53 wickets at an average of 11.08 with best bowling figures of 8-39. Tahmid also scored 152 runs during the season at an average of 13.82.
